The year of 2012 has been a huge one for the Haka Lodge brand! Not only did we grow our Christchurch lodge to be the top-rated hostel on Trip Advisor, but we got the privilege of opening a brand new hostel in Queenstown! Along the way our fans – which we like to call “Haka Warriors” – have been with us and supported us. We would like to thank all of our warriors of making 2012 an amazing year that we won’t forget! To celebrate the amazing year we’ve had, we decided to do a kickback to 2012 and check out all of the highlights over the past year.
Opening Haka Lodge Queenstown
What could be bigger and better than opening a whole new lodge?! The Haka Lodge brand began in Christchurch in 2011, and has now expanded to Queenstown in 2012. We’re very proud of our hostel. It has almost double the number of beds that our Christchurch lodge has. It is located just a street away from the main intersection in Queenstown (Shotover/Camp Street) putting it close to the action.
As you can imagine, it was quite a mission to get our Queenstown lodge created. We had teams of builders, carpenters, admin staff and more on-site working flat-stick right up until the day it opened! There were some upsides to this madness; Christchurch lodge queens Sarah and Kerri-Anne got to go out shopping for lots of new furniture, bedding, linen and more! See all of those nice cushions in the downstairs lounge? You can thank Sarah for that! We’re sure this lodge will grow just like our Christchurch one has, and 2013 looks to be an exciting year for the Haka brand.
Rising the ranks in reviews
A quick history lesson; Haka Lodge Christchurch opened in mid 2011 after having its opened stalled. Initially as it found its footing, it only had a few guests come through its doors; which, we have heard, were treated like royalty! Pretty soon word spread and within a few months it became a bustling, buzzing hostel. Here is the amazing thing; we have done very little promotion in our time. Instead, we relied on word of mouth. We put our heart and soul into our hostel, and let our guests go out and spread the word. They left us really positive reviews on hotel world, hostel bookers, Trip Advisor and more! The result is now we’re sitting at the top of these sites, which makes us so happy! Thank you, our Haka Warriors!
Christchurch is in the middle of an exciting and dynamic rebuild. This has created a lot of in-demand, well-paying jobs. Plenty of workers have responded to the call and have come to Christchurch for a working-holiday. We have had several long-termers stay with us this year and they have been absolutely wonderful! Clean, tidy, respectful and lots of fun to be around! Kerri-Anne has become a sister to them and Sarah is their mother (but don’t tell her that)! If you stop by and you happen to run into one of these guys (they hang out in the lounge and the dorm rooms) be sure to say hello. They are very friendly and would be happy to show you around.
That wraps up the 2012 highlights of the year for Haka Lodge. There were tonnes of other great highlights as well; including involuntarily adopting a new cat, stunning snow days and so much more. We would like to thank our Haka Warriors for all of their support, and we can’t wait to make 2013 our best year yet.
